How to plant tomato with Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch to maximize production in our orchards.
The Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch promotes and accelerates the growing conditions of our tomatoes. In addition, it acts as an effective agent on pest control and allows for proper soil aeration. These are some advantages over agricultural plastic and biodegradable plastic.

Maximum respect for the environment
Novamulch biodegradable paper padding has the FSC seal, which accredits our product as a paper produced with wood from responsible forests, as is all our paper production.
Our paper mulch does not need to be removed at the end of each growing cycle, as it naturally biodegrades and is incorporated into the soil as a sustainable nutrient. We can see this process after a few weeks, and it benefits us in management costs: savings in time and money.

Economic benefits
Once the tomato harvest is finished, we do not need to remove our Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch.
As it is an organic product, we can crush it directly and incorporate it into the soil. After a few weeks it will have been fully integrated as an ecological nutrient and without leaving any residue, unlike biodegradable plastic and agricultural plastic.
The latter require much higher costs in time and management (labor or mechanics), to remove the plastic remnants that are harmful to our next crops.

How to plant tomatoes in vegetable gardens with our Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch.
Here are some options for use:
We can do it manually, using a planter and directly punching the paper, and in the case of small gardens we can make a cut in the paper (respecting the recommended distances), to place the tomato seedlings.
We can also make use of plastic or specific paper quilting machinery.
We share an article that may interest us on How to Plant Tomatoes, in which we examine everything about this crop in detail.
We also share two studies on tomato and tomato diseases, as a reference and prevention.

Mulching in greenhouse
By implementing Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch in this type of environment, we are able to simplify the usual care tasks throughout the growing cycle of our tomatoes.
As these are protected spaces against climatic factors such as unpredictable winds and rains, it is enough to spread our mulch on the ground and in the areas where we are going to plant tomatoes, as we can see in the photographs below.
On the other hand, we will be favored by installing the Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch, as we will effectively avoid splashes on the structure of the tomatoes from their initial stages of growth, as well as excess humidity and the appearance of weeds and fungi in the soil.
We present this excerpt from our article, referring to how to plant tomatoes in a greenhouse:

Adequate watering for planting tomatoes in orchards.
Proper irrigation is a crucial point in any type of crop. When we implement the Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch for planting tomatoes, we ensure irrigation by drip tapes directed punctually towards the base of the tomato structure, in such a way that not only do we minimize water costs in our agricultural plan but we also manage to maintain a constant balance of soil moisture and temperature levels.
Planting tomatoes under these conditions provides us with healthy fruits, developed in totally organic conditions, free of pests and diseases, and highly appreciated in all markets for their optimal quality.

Pest Control: Cyperus Rotundus or Juncia.

One of the functions of Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch is precisely to serve as pest and disease control. The sedge, Jundia or Cyperus rotundus, is highly invasive as it deteriorates and consumes our tomatoes.
The Novamulch material is an agent that inhibits the appearance and proliferation of these invaders
unlike agricultural plastics and biodegradable plastics.
By spreading the Novamulch paper on the soil in which we are going to plant tomatoes, the remnant of the sedge that remains in the soil will be nullified, without the possibility of prospering, while by making use of these plastics we allow the gestation, development and invasion of these “colonizers”, who pass through the plastics quickly, entering into irreversible competition for nutrients in the main crop.

In addition, Novamulch paper is designed to fulfill the following tasks:
As it creates a favorable and healthy environment for planting tomatoes, we can reduce the cultivation time, accelerating the development cycle of the plants.
It allows us to plant tomatoes outside the usual planting seasons, as the environments, soil and substrates are sheltered.
If we do proper monitoring from the initial phases of cultivation, with the help of Novamulch paper we avoid costs in fumigations and weeding of weeds.
We will avoid high water costs, because Novamulch paper keeps humidity and temperature levels in balance.

Plant tomato and mildew (Phytophthora infestans).
This is a common fungus in tomatoes and presents the risk of destroying our crop if we do not detect it in time, so it is advisable to spread the biodegradable paper mulch before transplanting.
In this way we allow adequate aeration and controlled irrigation of the soil while avoiding direct contact of the plant structure with possible splashes and humidity that make it susceptible.
Tomato harvest in the garden and mulch biodegradable paper mulch.
When the tomato harvest time arrives, we will leave the Novamulch paper on the ground.
If we wish, when we turn the soil to prepare our next crop we can crush the few residues we see and after a few weeks it will finish its natural cycle of biodegradation becoming a rich nutrient.
Our Novamulch paper is fully biodegradable; It does not contain polluting dyes or additives as it is designed to integrate and enrich the soil, thus respecting agricultural sustainability standards and protocols.

Application of NovaMulch biodegradable paper mulch for planting tomatoes in the garden.
1. Placement
To spread our Novamulch paper over the sowing area, we recommend using an agricultural mulcher, specific to do it evenly and guaranteeing a firm and continuous installation in each row of the crop.
This equipment allows Novamulch mulch to be placed quickly, accurately and without damaging the paper, optimizing weed control, water savings and crop yield. It is also known as mulch layer or mulch layer.
In the case of planting tomatoes in smaller spaces such as orchards, it will be easier to place it manually.
2. Seeding
Another advantage of implementing our NovaMulch biodegradable paper mulch
It is that prior to the final planting, it allows us to make seedbeds for tomato seedlings.
When the time comes to transplant, we can place directly in the final soil both the Novamulch paper that has served as a seedbed, and the tomato seedling that has grown inside it.
As we have seen, paper will progressively degrade during the development cycle.
3. Watering tomatoes in orchards.
Our biodegradable Novamulch paper also works as a regulating agent for humidity and temperature levels.
If we implement irrigation by drip tapes directed towards the ground preferably, we will see that biodegradable paper will control the need for frequent irrigation as it is responsible for stabilizing these conditions. In this way it represents a considerable saving for our maintenance costs.

How to make tomato seedlings with Novamulch biodegradable mulch.
Materials we need:
Novamulch biodegradable padding strips approximately 15 cm wide.
A cardboard tube to use as a mold.
Substrate for seedbeds.
Tomato seeds.
Water.
Step by step:
1. Form the seedbeds.
We cut strips of Novamulch paper, wrapped around the cardboard tube and folded the base inwards to close it. Remove the tube and thus we will have a biodegradable container.
2. Filling and sowing.
We fill each seedbed with light substrate. Plant 1 or 2 tomato seeds between 0.5 to 1 cm deep. Cover lightly with part of the substrate.
3. Irrigation and germination.
Moisten slightly avoiding waterlogging. Place the seedlings in a warm and bright space until they begin to germinate.
4. Care of tomato seedlings
We must control the humidity levels and allow the growth of the seedlings to develop between 2 and 4 true leaves.
5. We transplant directly into the soil.
We place each complete seedbed in the field, without removing the paper. Novamulch mulch will biodegrade naturally, reduce transplanting stress, and preserve the substrate and habitat of the initial stages of our tomatoes.

Place Novamulch biodegradable paper padding according to the temperature and for all types of weather.
Each season asks us to attend to specific events, such as mulching our crops to minimize the risks of pest invasion and proliferation of diseases or weeds.
Likewise, we may find ourselves in the need for quilting to balance temperature levels, as is the case in summer seasons or in particularly hot and dry areas, and here we will quilt by placing the Novamulch paper on the reverse side (upside down), with the light brown side towards the surface.
This allows us to control the effect of high temperatures, achieve adequate aeration of the entire structure of the plants from the root system while transpiration occurs due to the effect of the climate.
Steps to place Novamulch biodegradable paper mulch in our garden.
First step: Spread the Novamulch paper roll on the surface where we are going to place the tomatoes.
Second step: We make a small trench on the sides to fix the Novamulch paper in such a way that it does not move or lift in the wind.
Step Three: Once spread and fixed, mark the paper with an X following the recommended distance, or we can make a cut in which we are going to place 1 or 2 seeds or a seedling.
Fourth step: we do a light watering.
Fifth step: in this way we will obtain a healthy harvest, of optimal quality and free of pests and diseases.
